My Journey of Hope: Day 1 of 28 - Before and After

I ended up having about half an hour to spend on the office, mostly because lunch took longer to cook than I expected, and I got a call midway through to pick a friend up for a ride home.

Here's how things started out in the office:

From the doorway, looking left. There's a loveseat in there, honest!

From the hallway, looking right. Can you believe my new Ikea shoe cabinet is in here? Yeah, neither can I.

Busy Little Bee's Poetry Corner - The Sound of Salsa

Today in Busy Little Bee's Poetry Corner, we revisit one of my favourite filks. But first, an explanation of the word "filk":

To my reckoning, a filk is a song where one takes an existing melody and makes up new lyrics for it. This was in practice even in medieval times, but really gained popularity (and it's name) in the 20th century in Sci-Fi culture. Wikipedia has this to say on the topic. When trying to explain it to others, I generally end up saying, "You know, like what 'Weird Al' does." Clear as mud? Great.

And now, without delay, is the filk that Hubby and I wrote in about 5-10 minutes in March 2008. I give you...

Overheard in the Van...

While waiting at a stop sign, we saw a Papa John's delivery car drive by. Then I heard this:

Busy Little Bee's Poetry Corner

Good afternoon, and welcome to Busy Little Bee's Poetry Corner.

This is where I write atrocious poems, share some of my horrible haiku, or just share something that someone far more talented than I has written.

Today, I give you an original work, inspired by my beloved children, and the game they are currently playing.

O, Lego Star Wars
Kids sniping at each other -
   It's just a game, guys.

Ode To A Wobbly Pop

O, golden nectar, blessed elixir of drunk-texting
Resting serenely in a pale blue goblet
Dew-drops of condensation balancing on the shapely curves of my glass;
Would that I had Jedi mind powers and could will you to rise to my eager, waiting mouth
To pour your glittering goodness down my throat.

The joy you bring to me, your cooling balm soothes the burning within me
And though I will want another, and then another in quick succession,
The uneven gait of your tell-tale alcohol content gives me pause;
For I do not wish to look a drunkard in front of the new neighbors.

And so I content myself with a solitary glass, savouring each drop
Like the happy little mouth party they are,
Watching the level sinking in my glass is bittersweet
For I long to keep you with me,
My glass of liquid sunshine.

Decluttering My Way

 I have a confession to make.     I hate housework. Yes, me - the proprietor of Busy Bee Domestic Wizardry, where I cleaned other peoples...
